At Avelair, we’ve just completed another turnkey compressed air upgrade in Ipswich, Suffolk where we have installed a new Avelair VSDR 11 variable speed drive rotary screw compressor alongside new air treatment equipment for a well-established local engineering and manufacturing business. We have also installed new upgraded breathing air filtration along with regular breathing air tests.
A smarter compressed air system for a busy production site
Our customer supports a range of industries with precision engineering and workshop services, so dependable compressed air is essential to their day-to-day operations. Their previous setup was working, but they wanted to reduce energy consumption, and enhance the quality of the compressed air for their breathing air requirements.
The solution was a modern Avelair VSDR 11 package designed to match output to demand. Unlike fixed-speed compressors that run “all or nothing,” a variable speed unit adjusts to demand which reduces energy and cost.
Upgrading breathing air quality and ongoing testing
Because breathing air is used on-site, the customer also wanted to improve the filtration to demonstrate higher standards. We installed new point of use 3 stage breathing air filtration to support cleaner, safer air and introduced a structured approach with 3-monthly breathing air tests, carried out by Avelair. This means the customer has consistent documentation, scheduled checks, and confidence that quality remains on track without putting extra pressure on their internal team. Breathing air tests need to comply with BS EN 12021 and should be completed in line with an on site risk assesment. Avelair can help with this to ensure you meet the standards.
Written Scheme of Examination and PSSR 2000
As part of the project, we completed a Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) to help the business stay aligned with PSSR 2000 (Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000) requirements. The WSE details what needs examining, how often, and by whom – this ensures the system is safe, maintained, and up to date.
