The laser cutting process includes the injection of an assist gas at the nozzle to assist the cutting process, as the introduction of nitrogen, oxygen, or air helps transfer heat more effectively than just the laser.

Cutting gases such as nitrogen and oxygen have historically been the most common assist gases for laser cutting applications. However, the cost of producing these gases is expensive.  Compressed air offers many advantages:
